Daybook: July 3, 2017

Monday, July 3

Outside my window…….birds are chirping away in the back yard and every so often a car drives by out front. Quite a few walkers and runners are getting their steps in before the temperature and humidity make the day unbearable.

I am thinking…….about what I need to do this week for work, school and around the house.

I am thankful for……coffee, general good health, and the ability to work from home.

From the kitchen…..the coffee pot is tempting me — I brewed a pot, but haven’t yet poured myself a cup. I should remedy that! Not much else happening here today — I cooked a couple of meals over the weekend that have provided plenty of leftovers. My goal to stay on top of the fridge is to not cook again until we get through a decent amount of what is already on hand. Except we are grilling tomorrow for the 4th. 🙂

I am wearing…..lounge pants with penguins on them and a tank top. I’ll probably get dressed in something a bit more presentable later today, but for now this is comfy and cool.

I am creating…..articles for my work and a long term plan for the backyard.

I am going…….nowhere today, if I can help it.

I am reading……..Vanity Fair by William Thackeray and The Better Angels of Our Nature by Steven Pinker. Both are audio books. I also have a biography of Martin Luther and Big Little Lies, but I haven’t started either of them yet <– physical books.

I am hoping……that I can get to weed-eating the backyard this afternoon, evening.

I am hearing…..birds chirping and my husband on the phone.

Around the house…….the cats have staked out their desired sprawling zones.

One of my favorite things……is a day off in the middle of the week!

A few plans for the rest of the week…..grilling and puttering around the house tomorrow. Yoga on Wednesday. GI scope for my husband on Friday.

Here is a picture I am sharing…….patriotic potatoes! I mentioned my recent obsession with tiny potatoes. Here is what we had on hand this weekend (we’ve eaten some since this photo was taken).

    1. Thanks! Me too — it’s mostly for information now that they’ve settled on a diagnosis.

  1. Love the patriotic potatoes! Hope your husband’s medical tests give good results. Hope your week goes well. Take care.

  2. I love potatoes. It must be my Irish heritage. Growing up we had potatoes every night. It was only much later in life that I “discovered” rice, Bulgar, couscous and quinoa. But since my husband didn’t care for those things, I didn’t make them much. I need to rediscover those grains.

    1. I do try to cook with a variety of grains, but I think rice is probably my favorite.
